Our story
In 2013, our lives took a profound and unexpected turn when our firstborn child, Noah, received the first in a series of diagnoses, ultimately including Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and Autism. We were living in the Middle East and our eyes were quickly opened to the lack of resources, support, and acceptance of children with unique needs. We made a difficult decision to take a medical leave of absence and return to the States to complete more diagnostic testing and begin early intervention therapies. In the months that followed, my wife and I were introduced to a brand new set of skills, and we began to see our son flourish with the help he was receiving.
During our time in the States, we were asked to consider returning to the Middle East to partner with a local team that was starting a new school. It would be one of the first schools in the country to provide inclusive education for children with intellectual and physical disabilities. My wife and I had experienced firsthand the transformation that could take place within a child and family when the right supports were put into place. We felt deeply compelled that the same opportunities and access we would want for Noah, should be made available for all children with disabilities.
We returned to the Middle East and spent the next four years working with an amazing team, building out an inclusive school where children of all abilities could learn together. During this season, we saw God use this school to change the lives of many children and their families. In 2018, we returned to the States. Yet, while overseas, God had planted a seed deep in our hearts for inclusion. I have gratefully spent the past 5 years working for nonprofits, supporting and growing disability ministries in Africa and the Middle East.
In October 2023, our life was forever changed when our beloved son passed away unexpectedly at the age of 15 from an acute onset of a rare autoimmune disease. While his death has broken our hearts, it’s served as a harsh reminder that our time on earth is limited. We have a desire to make each day count.
God has opened up a door for us to continue in the important work of disability and inclusion advocacy in the Middle East and around the world. God has brought an amazing team together and we are confident this is the time to serve with intention and purpose. We long to see communities transformed where all children with disabilities, like our Noah, BELONG!
